Should the Giants fear the Eagles come playoff time???
Since the Giants have a first round bye in the Playoffs, they won’t be playing any games this week. It is probably a good thing, because it gives them a chance to get healthy, and perhaps put together some excellent game plans for the 2nd round of the playoffs. In Round 2, the Giants will be playing the winner of the Cardnials/Falcons game (According to one playoff bracket breakdown I just saw. By the way, I’d put my money on Arizona for that one). Either opponent should be a very easy win for the Giants. In fact, the Giants faced the Cardnials in week 12 and won by a score of 37 -29.
So let’s for a moment assume that the Giants make it to the NFC Conference Finals, they will be either facing the Eagles, Vikings or Panthers. The Giants showed in week 16 that Carolina shouldn’t be a problem (even though they narrowly won). The Vikings actually be the Giants in week 17, however since they had already clinched home field advantage, they weren’t playing all their regulars (Jacobs didn’t play, Eli only played half the game).
But the real worry for the Giants should be Philadelphia. Since both teams are in the same division, they play twice a year. In their first match up, the Giants won by a very small margin, in fact, the Eagles almost won that game. During the second matchup the Eagles out performed the Giants, winning 20 -14.
The Eagles also won 4 of their last 5 games going into the playoffs, in order to secure a spot, and averaged a score of 34.5 pts. in their 4 wins during that time. During that same 5 week span the Giants went 2-3 and didn’t score more than 30 points in any one game, and only scored 35 or more points in 5 games all season. The defense wasn’t much better either giving up 23 pts. per game.
The bottom line is, the Giants better hope for a Vikings win this weekend, otherwise they may be in trouble if they have to face the Eagles.
So for all you Giants fans… GO VIKINGS!!!!
Note: Another report I read states that if the Eagles win the Giants face them in round 2. Either way, they should still be worried.
