Mets could lose Lowe to Braves
New reports have super agent Scott Boras and the number 1 free agent pitcher left on the market at this point, Derek Lowe, meeting with the Atlanta Braves later this week. The Braves, who are in serious need of pitching after losing Hampton, Smoltz and Glavine to a combination of injuries and now free agency, are extremely interested in Lowe. He would be a welcome additon to the Braves rotation, which includes Tim Hudson, Jair Jurrjens, and Jaiver Vasquez. Atlanta has also be mentioned in talks for a trade with San Diego for ace Jake Peavy. Most likely one of these two transactions will occur, but not both.
There are also reports that this is all a ploy by Boras in order to get the Mets to budge on either years, dollars or both. The current contract offer to Lowe is 3 years for $36 million dollars. Lowe is the top pitching free agent left on the market, but there are still plenty of options out there, and the Mets only have to fill 1 spot at minimum, and 2 spots at the most. Expect a development on this in the next week or so….
That’s my 2 cents… I’d love to hear yours!
