Pettitte to Yanks, Smoltz to Sox???

Word out of the Bronx is that the Yanks are still in talks with Andy Pettitte to sign the left handed starting pitcher.  Pettitte had previously turned down a 1 year $10 million dollar deal.  It is expected that the lefty is seeking at least a 2 year deal, and has had interest from other teams.  Pettitte would fill the 5th spot in the rotation behind Sabathia, Burnett, Wang, and Chamberlain.

Talk out of Boston is that the Red Sox are close to signing free agent pitcher John Smoltz.  Smoltz has spent his entire career with Atlanta, but is on the outs after an injury last season which shut him down.  The starter, turned closer, turned starter, turned closer again, would probably be a set up man in Boston.  Boston already has a dominate closer in Papelbon, and a solid rotation with Dice K, Beckett, Lester, Penny and Wakefield.   Wakefield who is very versitile could always move into the pen, and Smoltz could move into the pen, but it is unlikely following his injury.

That’s my 2 cents…. I’d love to hear yours!
