Mets Hot Stove: Should the Mets make one of these moves???
Andruw Jones - Jones should be released by the Dodgers today. He is a 31 year old Gold Glove Outfielder and HR Champ. He also will have most of his salary paid for by the Dodgers over the course of the next 6 years. I believe that even if he is traded the Dodgers pay this salary. If he is released, they definitely pay it. Is he worth a roster spot and a position in either LF or RF?
Michael Young - He has expressed an interest to play in NY and move to 2B. With the Mets having a rapidly aging Castillo at 2B, wouldn’t this add a nice sure addition to the lineup? He is a Gold Glove SS, who gets 200 hits per season. He is also a right handed bat, which the Mets could really use.
Jon Garland - He is 29, and is a 2 time 18 game winner. He hasn’t missed a start in 7 major league seasons. He was 14 - 8 last season with the LA Angels. He will give you 32 starts and 200+ innings every season. His career ERA is 4.47, all in the AL. This could drop in the NL. He has never pitched at Shea, and has pitched 4 times at Yankee Stadium, unsuccessfully. He has had 2 appearances against the Phillies. The one at Citizens Bank Park, he only gave up 1 ER over 6 IP.
