Spring Training Around The Corner

Published by danielcorvino under Baseball, Mets Edit This

Well, with Spring Training right around the corner the Mets appear to be all set with their roster. There is talk that they will be making a few smaller moves, such as possibly another Left Handed relief pitcher. The Mets seem to have sured up with starting rotation with the addition of Oliver Perez. That move appeared to be the best decision, since now Ben Sheets is set to have season ending elbow surgery.

Will Ohman, a lefty who has pitched in both relief and as a starter, has been rumored with the Mets, although the Braves still seem to be the front runners to attain his services.

The Manny Rumors have fizzled and have been replaced with Andruw rumors. Interestingly enough, I have been on the Andruw front for over a month, and it’s just now hitting the MLB writers. Jones could be a possibility for the Mets, but don’t count on it.

So, as spring training approaches, the big question is, does this seem like a championship team for the Mets. The were winners in the FA market on several fronts, but still didn’t answer all their off season questions. Their biggest moves were the additions of K Rod and JJ Putz. They still left question markets in LF and 2B. They pretty much remained the same with their starting rotation, although they did change some components, it wasn’t much of an improvement. They failed to add a Right handed bat, which a lot of people seem to think was needed.

Is this a team that will head to and win the World Series this season???? Probably not! The Mets budgeted a little too much, and the lack of a big star addition in either the lineup or rotation will cost them. Will this Mets team make the playoffs this year? Most definitely!

I’m looking forward to spring training to start and then finally the season.

By from Thailand (I’m on vacation, hence the lack of updates).

That’s my 2 cents… I’d love to hear yours!
